Visitors tend to focus on the filling line, but auditors spend a surprising amount of time in the warehouse. Every raw material, excipient and packaging component passes through it, and the controls applied there decide whether what reaches the manufacturing suite is what the batch record says it is.
Controlled storage
A cGMP warehouse separates materials by status — quarantine, under test, approved, rejected — physically or through a validated system, and stores temperature-sensitive materials in controlled conditions with continuous monitoring.
The sampling booth
Before an incoming API or excipient can be approved, Quality Control samples it. Opening a drum on an open floor would expose the material to the environment and the operator to the material. A sampling booth — a dedicated enclosure with laminar airflow and its own filtration — solves both problems. Swanya operates a separate sampling booth for APIs and excipients so that potent materials and bulk excipients are never sampled in the same space.
Dispensing under RLAF
Weighing the exact quantity for a batch is the next exposure point. Reverse Laminar Air Flow (RLAF) dispensing booths pull air away from the operator and through HEPA filtration, protecting both the material and the person doing the weighing.
FEFO versus FIFO
- FIFO — First In, First Out — consumes the oldest received lot first.
- FEFO — First Expiry, First Out — consumes the lot that expires soonest first, regardless of when it arrived.
FEFO is the stricter rule for pharmaceuticals because a later delivery can carry an earlier expiry date. Swanya's warehouse practice is FEFO/FIFO: expiry governs, and receipt order breaks ties.
Why it matters to buyers
